Praise for The Terrorist's Son This book shows therapists how to integrate EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) into the treatment so that adults who have been abused as children clear their trauma more rapidly, escape falling into the victim mentality, and proceed to lead full, productive lives. For therapists already familiar with EMDR, it covers the primary treatment issues and symptomatology of these clients and specific alterations of the standard EMDR protocol. For therapists experienced with treating abuse survivors, it introduces a safe and effective Guidebook to Better Medical Writing download ebook pdf way to process trauma. Emphasizing the practical, Laurel Parnell not only teaches many techniques to help the therapist when an impasse is reached, but also provides a selection of treatment choices. She demonstrates how EMDR can be used in the beginning phase of therapy for ego strengthening and the development and installation of resources. This prepares clients for trauma processing in the middle phase. Finally, in the end phase, clients integrate their experiences and often feel an awakening of their creativity and spirituality.

Mapping Spatial PPs : The Cartography of Syntactic Structures, Volume 6

Description

This volume focuses on the internal structure of prepositional phrases, an area that has so far received little attention from the standpoint of cartography. Despite the wide range of data and considerations presented in these essays, the contributors reach a strikingly convergent conclusion: that phrases composed of spatial prepositions, adverbs, and particles do not have different structures, but merely spell out different parts of the same articulated configuration.

First published in the 1950s, this is a classic account of the discovery in 1911 of the lost city of Machu Picchu. In 1911 Hiram Bingham, a pre-historian with a love of exotic destinations, set out to Peru in search of the legendary city of Vilcabamba, capital city of the last Inca ruler, Manco Inca. With a combination of doggedness and good fortune he stumbled on the perfectly preserved ruins of Machu Picchu perched on a cloud-capped ledge 2000 feet above the torrent of the Urubamba River. The buildings were of white granite, exquisitely carved blocks each higher than a man. Bingham Languages in Contact : Findings and Problems free download pdf had not, as it turned out, found Vilcabamba, but he had nevertheless made an astonishing and memorable discovery, which he describes in his bestselling book LOST CITY OF THE INCAS. From the #1 bestselling French author and three-time winner of the Crime Writers' Association's International Dagger Award. When Commissaire Jean-Baptiste Adamsberg, the chief of police in Paris's seventh arrondissement, is called to the scene of a ghastly and highly unusual murder, he thinks it can't have anything to do with the nine pairs of shoes and severed feet discovered outside of London's Highgate Cemetery just a few days earlier. With the help of the murdered man's gifted physician, Adamsberg delves into the victim's disturbed psyche and unexpectedly finds himself on a path that takes him deep into the haunted past of Eastern Europe, where a centuries-old horror has come to life and is claiming victims far and wide.

Ben Woodard: Slime Dynamics

Slime Dynamics

Description

Despite humanity s gradual ascent from clustered pools of it, slime is more often than not relegated to a mere residue-the trail of a verminous life form, the trace of decomposition, or an entertaining synthetic material-thereby leaving its generative and mutative associations with life neatly removed from the human sphere of thought and existence. Arguing that slime is a viable physical and metaphysical object necessary to produce a realist bio-philosophy void of anthrocentricity, this text explores naturephilosophie, speculative realism, and contemporary science; hyperbolic representations of slime found in the weird texts of HP Lovecraft and Thomas Ligotti; as well as survival horror films, video games, and graphic novels, in order to present the dynamics of slime not only as the trace of life but as the darkly vitalistic substance of life.

*FREE* The Social Uses of Literacy : Theory and Practice in Contemporary South Africa pdf

Mastin Prinsloo,Mignonne Breier,Brian Street: The Social Uses of Literacy : Theory and Practice in Contemporary South Africa

The Social Uses of Literacy : Theory and Practice in Contemporary South Africa

Description

This book details the findings of a research project investigating the social uses of literacy in a range of contexts in South Africa. This approach treats literacy not simply as a set of technical skills learnt in formal education, but as social practices embedded in specific contexts, discourses and positions. What this means is made clear through a series of fine-grained accounts of social uses and meanings of literacy in contexts ranging from the taxi industry in Cape Town, to family farms, urban settlements and displacement sites, rural land holdings, and various sites during the 1994 elections, and among different sectors of South African society, Black, Colored and White. Since the view of literacy presented here is so dependent on context, the book provides not only descriptions of literacy practices but also rich insights into the complexity of everyday social life in contemporary South Africa at a major point of transition. It can be read as a concrete way of understanding the emergence of the New South Africa as it appears to actors on the ground, focused through attention to one central feature of contemporary life - the uses and meanings of literacy. "Using fascinating and carefully documented case-study material, this book raises vital questions about literacy and illiteracy, and about adult education. Above all, it questions the efficacy of any literacy programme which fails to acknowledge the many ways in which uneducated and so called 'illiterate' people already use reading, writing and numeracy in their everyday lives." Jenny Maybin, The Open University, Milton Keynes

Paul Nash: Landscape and the Life of Objects

Description

Paul Nash (1889-1946) created an individual pathway through English art in the first half of the 20th century, shaping a body of work that recognised the importance of the modern movement and stimulated him to evolve his own English landscape-based Surrealism. Within a narrative that is both chronological and thematic, Andrew Causey, the leading authority on Paul Nash, teases out the character of Nash's vision and unravels his personal mythology.Nash's values link him to Romanticism, in an art that is deeply imbued with personal feeling, in which elements of landscape merge with individual identity and a sense of the essential nature of England itself. While evidence of this is drawn principally from Nash's painting, Andrew Causey also stresses the revealing nature of Nash's writings and the importance of the artist's book illustration. Building on the author's pioneering catalogue raisonne on the artist, this publication sets Nash's vision in the wider cultural context of literature and poetry, and takes new scholarship into account.Including 100 colour images, Paul Nash combines up-to-date scholarship with the best of Nash's paintings and is an invaluable addition to the literature on an artist whose centrality to English art is increasingly recognised.

Australian landscape designer Phillip Johnson became an international household name after winning Best in Show at the Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower and Garden Show in 2013 - the equivalent of winning a gold medal at the Olympics. Connected focuses on his key passions including: integrated sustainable water management and the creation of natural, chemical-free pools; recreation Discover Your Voice: Learn to Sing from Rock to Classic free ebook of thriving habitats for indigenous plants and animals; and the thoughtful connection of the landscape to the home. Illustrated with lavish photography and beautiful watercolour plans, Connected tells the stories behind the commissioning, design and execution of 19 gardens designed by Phillip (with insights from their owners), ranging from small suburban to large rural spaces, and includes his own home garden 'laboratory'. His account of the design and construction of his award-winning garden at Chelsea is also featured.

Amitav Ghosh: The Glass Palace

The Glass Palace

Description

The acclaimed author of 'The Calcutta Chromosome' and 'The Shadow Lines' has burst out on to the big stage with a major saga on that hidden country, Burma. Rajkumar is only another boy, helping on a market stall in the dusty square outside the royal palace, when the British force the Burmese king, queen and all the court into exile. He is rescued by the far-seeing Chinese merchant, and with him builds up a logging business in upper Burma. But haunted by his vision of the royal family, he journeys to the obscure town in India where they have been exiled. The picture of the tension between the Burmese, the Indian and the British, is excellent. Among the great range of characters are one of the court ladies, Miss Dolly, whom he marries; and the redoubtable Jonakin, part of the British-educated Indian colony, who with her husband has been put in charge of the Burmese exiled court. The story follows the fortunes - rubber estates in Malaya, businesses in Singapore, estates in Burma - which Rajkumar, with his Chinese, British and Burmese relations, friends and associates, builds up - from 1870 through World War II to the scattering of the extended family to New York and Thailand, London and Hong Kong in the post-war years.

He didn't think he had a heart. Until he lost it. Cambridge Fellows Mysteries, Book 1 St. Bride's College, Cambridge, England, 1905. Jonty Stewart is handsome and outgoing, with blood as blue as his eyes. When he takes up a teaching post at the college where he studied, his dynamic style acts as an agent for change within the archaic institution. He also has a catalytic effect on Orlando Coppersmith. Orlando is a brilliant, introverted mathematician with very little experience of life outside the university walls. He strikes up an alliance with Jonty and soon finds himself heart-deep in feelings he's never experienced. Before long The Glass Palace free download pdf their friendship blossoms into more than either man had hoped. Then a student is murdered within St. Bride's. Then another...and another. All the victims have one thing in common: a penchant for men. Asked by the police to serve as their eyes and ears within the college, Jonty and Orlando risk exposing a love affair that could make them the killer's next target. Warning: Contains sensual m/m lovemaking and men in punts.
